Shelter Island has long been a peaceful and protected place, nearly one third of the island is owned by the Nature Conservancy and kept wild. It is accessible by boat and has 3 deep water harbors with fully equipped marinas on beach. The island is also accessible by car ferry from the North or South Fork. The Island is for people who want rest from suburban life, and much of the island has been kept in its rural state.
TripAdvisor Review: "Went to Vine Street this evening. Another wonderful meal - mine started with a half dozen sparklingly fresh Montauk Pearl oysters, followed by the Monday night special Bouillabaise, served properly with croûtons and rouille. You won't find better this side of Marseille. Attentive but unobtrusive service was most appreciated. This place is expensive, but the product is so good, it's good value."
